Well, usually my column is humorous. Sometimes I like to indulge in good, old fashioned righteous outrage. Most weeks, though, Sanity Check's driving philosophy is that we all goof up... but laughing at those goof-ups is a lot more healthy than obsessing over them. My Sanity Check column runs every Monday in the Dayton Daily News and covers everything from shredding pantyhose for stress relief to talking refrigerators. After a few "test" columns ran inside the newspaper, the column debuted as a regular feature on the cover of the Life section in February, 2002. I also record variations of some of my columns as Commentaries for southwestern Ohio's NPR station, WMUB (88.5 FM). To hear them as podcasts on WMUB's site, scroll down and click on "Local" at the bottom right, click on advanced search, then scroll down and enter "Sharon Short" in byline. Or, more simply, click here! ("Spam Mom" is a fun one!) Here are some of my favorite Sanity Check Columns: Holiday Fireworks... The Good Kind, December 2007 A Black Eye of Pride, November 2007 Life Lessons at the Boy Scout Tent Sale, August 2007 The Family Wimp Goes Parasailing, June 2007 A Cedar Slice of Life, May 2007 Where Are My Lips?, February 2007 Snow Days, February 2007 Birthday Cake in Flames... Really!, January 2007 Cross Country Lesson, October 2006 "Incident" Not Incidental, October 2006 Whose Hair Is It Anyway?, June 2006 Junk Day, May 2006 Food Porn, April 2006 Love is a Duct Tape Purse, February 2006 Herding Leaves, from November 2005 Ode to Cider, from November, 2005 Cat Boss, from October, 2005. Stage Set for Tough Audience, from February, 2005. Clean Life Has Mom Dog Tired, from October, 2003. Trophy Wigs, from October, 2001
